Ignite last week

Hello people, hope you have had a nice week. I've been pretty busy, but managed to squeeze in the odd show here and there, including one last Sunday.

There was some crazy punk all-dayer thing going on at the Mean Fiddler, so me and some mates headed down. Imagine the current London heat plus no air conditioning plus loads of sweaty rockers in leather. Yep, it was stinky. Anyways, got down there at about 8pm, and headliners Ignite had decided to come on an hour early because they didn't think it was right that they played after GBH. Fair enough. We just managed to run down the stairs, slip on the sweat and beer and rush to the middle as the band started their second song. They played a great set - a nice mixture of classics from albums like 'A Place Called Home' right up to new songs from 'Our Darkest Days'.. lots of air punching and hip wiggling, plus Zoli's politically motivated mid-set banter. They really are one of the musically tightest bands of that genre… and though Zoli's voice might be a bit of a Marmite, in a live environme
nt, it's really strong. I had a bit of a shimmy, blew my voice yelling in Hungarian (I kind of had to make those bits up) and then went and spent my hard-earned pennies on a hoody that's far too warm to wear for at least six months. Ha ha!

If you fancy buying their latest album....

Things to do...

If you are looking for something to look forward to now that Download is all done and dusted and Reading festival is so far away, why not save your pennies for this year's Uxfest.

Uxfest is a charity event, and proceeds this year go to: YOUTH MUSIC, NATANDY FUND and YELDALL
For more information check out the official website and Myspace page.

The festival, until now, has always taken place in Uxbridge (hence the name), and this year is the first time the fest has come to London. It takes place on Sunday the 6th of August at the Islington Academy (upstairs and downstairs over two stages).

Bands that are due to play this year include:

Skindred *

B*Movie Heroes

Architects *

Outcryfire

PDHM *

Engel

Profane *

Forever Never *

Sylosis *

NWS

Fireapple Red *

Biomechanical *

Murder One

Head-on *

Kingsize blues *

Inner Rage

Mumrah

Shellshock

Captain Everything

I have put stars next to the ones that I reckon are really worth checking out for sure, not to say that the other bands aren't!

Tickets can be bought from www.ticketweb.co.uk or by phoning 0870 771 2000.

Hell yeah!

UK metal on the up!

Happy Friday everyone.
Last night I went to see Bring Me The Horizon play at the Bar Academy in Islington (that's the little venue upstairs from the main one). It was a pretty packed show - full of crazy haircuts and noisy metal. Bring Me The Horizon were pretty snazzy (despite bad sound) and had fists pumping and hands clapping (as well as a kinda wall of death from the front t
o the back of the room). Me and my mates were content to just do silly dancing at the back - trying to juggle glasses of lemonade with handbags and flyers. Anyways, highlight of the night was actually the main support act Architects (from Brighton). This is them...
They do sort of the same type of thing as BMTH (shouty, noisy mathcore) but with a really nice dirty groove that make the songs a bit easier on the ear. They are pretty good mates with Brighton's biggest act Johnny Truant, and have toured together before.
You can hear them for yourself at their Myspace page. Or check out more info about when they might be playing near you at their website.
'Til next time!

Me and mates on Total Rock...

Afternoon chappies, last night I pre-recorded a radio show for internet radio station Total Rock. It was a three-hour stint, done with my pal Lucy F, for the Metal Hammer and Classic Rock show. We do it every few weeks live, but I am going off surfing this weekend so had to lay it down early! Anyways, it went OK and will be aired this coming Saturday, 8th July, from 3pn til 6pm, UK time. While we were there, we did a little interview with Brit rock boys Blood Roses on the show. This is them.....
They have an EP out in September - and even though it isn't proper scary heavy metal like I usually obsess over - it's still pretty awesome. Have a listen for yourself at their Myspace page... just click on the banner below.
