Albums of the year... hmm..

howdy all..
it's about that time that we in magazine land start thinking about our albums of the year.. 2007 has been such a great year for rock and metal.. and i am having a bit of trouble trying to work out who should grace the (probable) top 10 I have to compile!
Contenders this year:

Every Time I Die - the big dirty
Underminded - eleven eleven
Machine Head - the blackening
Biffy Clyro - puzzle
TDEP - ire works
Parkway Drive - horizons

and so many more!!

what's your top5?

Oooo.. good music!

Hello people.
Today I wanna talk about Thrice. It is rare that such a band can evolve so beautifully and neatly from one record to the next... and always remain ahead of the game!
I first got into Thrice on their debut - and at the time, I thought they had some of the best, most classically crafted good songwriting around.
Then the next album, and the next, and now the most recent.. they have gone from punk rock, to hardcore, to emo, to ambient, to moodscapes... but it's still all Thrice.
Does any of this make sense? Probably not.
What I am trying to say, is that I believe they are one of only a few bands that have matured with age - and still remained interesting and exciting (Deftones and The Dillinger Escape Plan also fit this)...
Yeah.. so basically.. Thrice have a new album out soon.. 'The Alchemy Index, Vols 1 and II: Fire And Water' (what a mouthful!). Its part one of their four element series. And it's pretty damn cool.
Perhaps you should check it out. Up to you. www.myspace.com/thrice

Rant over.

Thank you heavy metal...

So... there i was last week.. feeling uncharacteristically down in the dumps. I had been sad for a few days, didn't know why - but to be fair - hadn't made much of an effort to get better either.
I didn't want to see my friends, or go to work.. and lying in bed seemed the best option.
THEN... I remembered that Killswitch Engage were playing at Brixton Academy.. and i heaved myself out of bed.. traveled to Brixton... and.. believe it or not.. got cured!

thank you Killswitch.
thank you heavy metal.
please god, someone remind me next time i am feeling sad and blue that music really does feed the soul.

I stood there amongst the few thousand other fans - and sung every word as loud as i could.. letting every riff wash over me like a massive (not scary) wave.

It was great. And although I don't feel 100 percent...I do feel LOTS better.

Cheers Killswith. Today's Blog post is for you.. x
